Biz News: SusieCakes to treat Costa Mesa starting Saturday

A vintage-themed bakery is scheduled to open Saturday in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Collection.

SusieCakes, 3321 Hyland Ave., specializes in “sentimental dessert favorites” made from scratch by its team of onsite bakers, according to a news release. It is the chain’s first Costa Mesa location and seventh in Southern California.

Saturday’s grand opening, from 1 to 4 p.m., will feature free mini-desserts, face painting, a balloon artist and children’s coloring books. For more information, visit https://www.susiecakes.com.

L.A. furniture store comes to SOCO

Los Angeles-based furniture store Cisco Home opened a showroom at the South Coast Collection on Aug. 22.

The 8,000-square-foot space features items made from “rescued and cast-away objects that may otherwise end up in landfills,” store founder Cisco Pinedo said in a statement.

Objects inside include an 18th-century carousel, one-of-a-kind-desks and a collection of vintage signs, according to a news release.

“We are so excited to become part of the O.C. community,” Pinedo said.

Newport restaurant to host dinner for charities

Newport Beach restaurant Tamarind of London plans to serve a pre-set menu from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 9 to benefit Project Hope Alliance and Hoag Hospital Foundation’s Circle 1000, according to a news release.

Half the sales during the evening will go to the two charities, which also will receive all proceeds from the three-day Newport Beach Wine and Food Festival later this month, the release said.

Costa Mesa firm expanding Caffe Primo chain

A Costa Mesa-based private equity firm will open Caffe Primo, a European-style cafe and bar, in Anaheim’s Center Street Promenade on Oct. 31, according to a news release.

PDC Capital Group plans to open six other Caffe Primo locations in San Diego and Los Angeles counties. The chain specializes in house-roasted coffees, salads, pizzettas, paninis, gelatos and sorbettos. It currently has two locations in Los Angeles.

PDC specializes in EB-5 investments under a federal initiative that encourages foreign nationals to gain permanent residency in exchange for investing at least $500,000 in an American business.
