Biz News: Firehouse Subs opening in Costa Mesa

A fast-casual sandwich chain is scheduled to open in Costa Mesa next week.

Firehouse Subs will open Monday at 2701 Harbor Blvd., in the Mesa Verde Center anchored by Vons, according to a news release.

It is the Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain’s first location in Costa Mesa and the fourth in Orange County.

The restaurant’s decor is based on its founders’ history in fire and police service. Firehouse Subs also donates millions to various public safety organizations.

Bank of the West gives to Project Access

Project Access of Newport Beach has received a $6,000 grant from Bank of the West.

The donation will help the nonprofit organization provide after-school tutoring in affordable-housing communities countywide, according to a news release.

Vogt, Resnick & Sherak partner named to board

Barry Resnick, managing partner at Vogt, Resnick & Sherak, LLP, has been appointed to the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute board of directors, according to a news release.

“LA BioMed is a nonprofit scientific research organization affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA,” according to a news release. “LA BioMed focuses on saving lives throughout the world and is committed to finding practical, inexpensive solutions to real-world health problems.”

The law firm has offices in Newport Beach and Los Angeles.

Financial advisor makes Barron’s Top 100

Laila Pence of Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach was named one of the Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors in America by Barron’s magazine. She was ranked No. 35.

According to Barron’s, the list is based on data provided by more than 4,000 financial advisors nationwide and considers advisors’ assets under management and revenue, plus the quality of their practices and their charitable involvement.

Union Bank promotes director

Ryan Baderian has been named a managing director for the business banking group at Union Bank.

He will oversee business development in Orange County, the Inland Empire and San Diego, according to a news release. Baderian, who has 12 years in banking, joined Union’s bank business group in 2011, according to the release.

Auction.com names legal counsel

Irvine-based Auction.com has named Mindy Heppberger executive vice president and chief legal officer. She will handle all legal matters from the firm’s office in Belmont.

She joined Auction.com in 2013 after working as vice president and deputy general counsel for Yahoo! and the Latham & Watkins law firm, according to a news release.

Club Detox opens in Newport

Club Detox, which offers a “proprietary combination of juicing, infrared heat therapy, alkaline living water and nutrition,” has opened in Newport Beach. The location at 1040 Bayside Drive is the second in Orange County. The first, which opened in 2012, is in Laguna Niguel.

Eight Rutan & Tucker partners have been named to the Best Lawyers in America 2015, a peer-review publication, according to an announcement from the Costa Mesa-based firm.
