The Westin South Coast Plaza hotel is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month.

The 403-room, 17-story hotel on Anton Boulevard in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Metro district originally opened as the South Coast Plaza Hotel on Aug. 18, 1975.

The anniversary was celebrated with a reception Tuesday.

The Segerstrom family, which owns nearby South Coast Plaza, built the hotel and is still involved in its ownership, according to a news release.

“It’s fitting that as we begin our 40th anniversary celebration, our guest rooms have been fully refreshed and are ready for guests to enjoy,” Trine Ackelman, director of sales and marketing, said in a statement.
