UC Irvine police Friday warned students about a man who tried to touch a female student inappropriately after he gave her a ride.

The student told police this week that a man approached her and offered to take her to a train station where she was headed, according to a news release from the police department.

When they got there, the suspect attempted to touch the student, but she was able to escape, according to police.

The man has been approaching female students and offering to give them directions or advice “on how to live in America,” according to a news release from the UC Irvine Police Department.

He’s been seen frequently at shopping centers around UC Irvine and a Starbucks on the corner of California Avenue and Campus Drive, according to UCIPD.

Police described him as white in his late 50s or early 60s. He may be driving a gold, early-model Lexus sedan.

Anyone approached by a man fitting the description can call police at (949) 824-5223.
