Biz News: JP Morgan Chase opens office near Fashion Island
JP Morgan Chase recently celebrated the grand opening of a “private client office” near Fashion Island.
The site, at 1470 Jamboree Road, used to house the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and looks over the Newport Beach Country Club, according to a news release.
“The new JP Morgan Chase office will provide much-needed services to this quickly expanding area,” the release said.
The location is the 100th branch of JP Morgan Chase in Orange County, said Councilwoman Leslie Daigle, who attended the grand opening along with Councilman Keith Curry.
“It represents a significant investment in our community,” she said.

Newport Beach purchases old Blockbuster building
The Newport Beach City Council authorized the purchase of the old Blockbuster building and adjacent parking lot at 3201 Newport Blvd. and 3204 Marcus Ave. for $6.35 million.
Along with other property still under negotiation, the space will be used to widen Newport Boulevard on the Balboa Peninsula between Via Lido and 30th Street.
An additional southbound lane will be added from Via Lido through 32nd street. A northbound lane will be added from 30th to 32nd Street, according to a staff report.
Bike lines will be extended on both sides Newport Boulevard, the staff report continued. Medians and landscaping will also be added at the intersection with 32nd street.
* Serving up tapas at SOCO
A new tapas restaurant called Pueblo is scheduled to open in the fall at the South Coast Collection, or SOCO, in Costa Mesa.
It will be a “modern take on classic, Spanish-style tapas,” according to a news release.
The menu will include dishes like Atun Crudo (tuna tartare with jicama, sesame and cilantro), Albondigas de Cerdo (lamb meatballs with chickpeas, paprika and mint) and Judias a la Parilla (charred Romano beans with shallot and romesco sauce), the release said.

Four O.C. residents honored with Komen awards
Costa Mesa-based Susan G. Komen Orange County recently honored four area residents at its annual Survivor Celebration and Awards Luncheon at the Oasis Senior Center in Newport Beach. The awards go to those who support Komen’s efforts to battle breast cancer.
Two notable breast-cancer survivors, O.C. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and Dr. Lisa D. Curcio, a surgical oncologist, gave the keynote addresses.
The 2014 honorees are Donna Hartman, Carla Cammack, Dr. Homayoon Sanati and Rosa Hernandez.
Cammack is from Fountain Valley and Sanati from Huntington Beach.
The organization sponsors the annual Race for the Cure at Fashion Island.

Laguna tourism bureau revamps website
Visit Laguna Beach has a redesigned website to match its new name, the nonprofit organization announced in a news release.
The organization, which promotes the city, was formerly called the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau.
The site, visitlagunabeach.com, offers information on attractions, restaurants and lodging and enables dining reservations through Open Table. Users can also access an interactive map of the city and connect to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram.
