A man tried to rob a Costa Mesa McDonald’s a few minutes after he had ordered food at the restaurant early Thursday, according to police.

Employees of the McDonald’s at Bristol Street and Red Hill Avenue called police about 12:20 a.m. when the customer returned and announced he was robbing the fast-food outlet, Costa Mesa police Lt. Bryan Glass said.

According to police, the unarmed man pushed one of the employees and requested cash.

“They weren’t sure what was going on,” Glass said.

The employees didn’t hand over any money, and when officers arrived, the man fled, according to police.
