Police on Tuesday arrested a 16-year-old boy who they believe broke into a Costa Mesa Starbucks in the middle of the night and stole food.

The teen told officers that he was homeless, Costa Mesa police Sgt. David Casarez said.

Police said they got a call about a burglary in progress around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and responded to the Starbucks at 450 E 17th St.

A window had been smashed and food taken from inside, Casarez said.

Based on a witness’ description, officers stopped the boy nearby and found Starbucks products on him, according to police.
