CM4RG to host general plan workshop on parks, traffic, neighborhoods, open space and more

Costa Mesans for Responsible Government plans to host a free event Thursday focused on the city’s update to its general plan.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave.

About five or six presenters are planned, said CM4RG President Robin Leffler, with topics concerning the general plan, a state-mandated document that acts as a citywide blueprint for future planning decisions and development through 2023.

The grass-roots, nonpartisan group — which frequently disagrees with the City Council majority — plans to provide information and not necessarily try to sway viewpoints, she said.

“With the general plan updates, and all the controversies swirling about some of the proposed plans, we just wanted to give out more information,” Leffler said.

Related topics will include open space and parks, Banning Ranch, zoning areas, affordable housing, parking, traffic and preserving neighborhoods, according to a CM4RG news release.

Attendees can “make up their own minds about what’s going on and know how to get involved if they want to get involved,” Leffler said.

CM4RG organizers plan to gather input that evening and present it to city planners and the council.
