Firefighters quickly extinguished a Newport Beach house fire Wednesday morning, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

Twenty-one firefighters responded to the 400 block of Aliso Avenue — near Fullerton Avenue and Beacon Street in Newport Heights — just before 7 a.m., according to a news release from the Newport Beach Fire Department.

The home’s residents told firefighters that they had smelled smoke earlier in the morning but couldn’t find the source, the news release said. When the smell grew stronger, the residents saw smoke and felt heat on the ceiling behind the drywall in a second-story back room.

Firefighters found the fire burning above the ceiling between the back room and a patio deck. They extinguished it within 20 minutes, according to the Fire Department.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the patio and house and an additional $15,000 in damage to belongings inside the home, according to the NBFD.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be accidental, the news release stated.
