Costa Mesa Sanitary District raises sewer fee 2%

Share

Costa Mesa Sanitary District directors recently approved a 2% sewer fee increase.

The bump amounts to 14 cents more per month, or $1.71 a year, for single-family homes. Apartments and industrial and commercial properties are also affected by the increase.

The directors’ July 24 vote was unanimous. The funds will go toward capital improvements and maintenance of the 224-mile sewer system and 20 lift stations.

Ratepayers will see the increase in November when they receive their property tax bills, said district General Manager Scott Carroll.

Yearly 2% increases are expected through July 2017.

The increase follows a larger one last July that amounted to an extra $1.36 a month for single-family homes.

Trash collection rates are remaining steady at $18 a month, or $216 a year, for single-family homes.

The district covers Costa Mesa, portions of Newport Beach and some unincorporated county land.
