Biz News: Holstein’s cow statue, beers, shakes, burgers to replace Charlie Palmer

Share

The South Coast Plaza space formerly occupied by the elegant Charlie Palmer restaurant, which closed this year, will be getting a very different look with the arrival next month of Holstein’s Orange County, a variation on Holstein’s Shakes & Buns of Las Vegas.

The new place will have a life-size cow statue — blue instead of pink, as it is in Vegas — 400 craft beers and milkshakes containing liquor.

The 40-foot dark walnut bar is now 20 feet longer, with 16 beer taps.

Holstein’s Costa Mesa location will offer burgers, steaks, seafood and pasta.

Irvine to be home to energy storage system

SunEdison, a renewable-energy development company, and microgrid specialist Advanced Microgrid Solutions signed an agreement this month to deploy 50-megawatt energy storage systems in California. A megawatt is a unit of power equal to 1 million watts.

The first fleet of energy storage systems is expected to start commercial operation next year in Irvine.

The two companies will develop and finance the systems for utility Southern California Edison, which will buy capacity under a 10-year contract and use the stored power to help offset energy once generated by nuclear and gas-fired facilities.

Storage systems will be built on commercial and industrial sites across the west Los Angeles Basin. SCE is planning to add 2.2 gigawatts of cleaner resources, including energy storage and renewables, by 2022. A gigawatt is equal to 1 billion watts.
