Paularino Elementary School in Costa Mesa is the latest Newport-Mesa Unified campus to get a new principal, the fifth so far this summer.

Newport Elementary School’s former principal, Amy Nagy, will take the job, the district announced Monday.

Paularino’s principal, Stacy de Boom-Howard, is taking on a special assignment for the district, according to a news release from Newport-Mesa. She will support the district in implementing Common Core State Standards, new learning benchmarks that have been adopted by most states.

Nagy was principal of Newport Elementary until June, when the district announced TeWinkle Middle School Principal Rich Rodriguez would transfer into that job.

Rea Elementary School Principal Anna Corral then briefly filled the opening at TeWinkle before quitting to take a job at Anaheim High School.

This summer, the district has also hired Scott Wilcox from the Lennox School District in Los Angeles County to head Whittier Elementary School and Kalim Rayburn, formerly the director of alumni engagement at USC, to head Rea Elementary.

Newport-Mesa is still in the process of recruiting principals for TeWinkle, Newport Harbor High School and Corona del Mar High School.

In June, Newport Harbor Principal Michael Vossen took a job overseeing career pathways and business partnerships for Newport-Mesa.

Earlier this month, CdM Principal Tim Bryan took a job as chancellor at Oxford Preparatory Academy in Mission Viejo.

Nagy will start her new job at Paularino on Aug. 1, according to the news release.
