Motorcyclist dies in Coast Highway crash

A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning on East Coast Highway in a crash that was expected to shut down westbound traffic near Reef Point Drive for about three hours, authorities said.

Dispatchers received calls about a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at about 9:13 a.m., Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella wrote in an email.

The vehicle carried one occupant, who did not report any injuries, Manzella wrote.

The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Newport Beach Fire Department paramedics, according to a news release.

The crash is under investigation, the news release said. Anyone who saw the accident or might have information about the crash is asked to contact investigator Eric Little at (949) 644-3746 or elittle@nbpd.org.
