Toxicology and autopsy reports for two of five teenagers killed in a Memorial Day car crash in Newport Beach were released this week by the Orange County Coroner, showing no definitive markers for alcohol or illegal drug use.

Aurora Cabrera, 16, a passenger in the Infiniti sedan that crashed into a median and then a tree on Jamboree Road, did not have alcohol or illegal drugs in her system, according to the report. She had taken cough syrup.

Nozad al-Hamawendi, 17, did not have illegal or over-the-counter drugs in his system. A trace amount of alcohol was found in his blood work, but that amount was so small it could have been from fermentation, and it should not be assumed he was drinking, one expert said.

This is the second grouping of autopsies and toxicology reports released from the crash.

The driver, 17-year-old Abdulrahman Alyahyan, did not have illegal or leal drugs or alcohol in his system, according to the first round of toxicology reports released last week.

The other two passengers, Cecilia Zamora, 17, and Aurora Cabrera’s older sister, Robin Cabrera, 17, had taken cough syrup.

Authorities have said speeding was a factor in the May 27 crash that killed the five Irvine teens.

The driver, Alyahyan, attended University High School. The passengers each went to Irvine High.
