Newport Beach police arrested two men and a teenage boy after one of them pulled a knife on a pair of boaters who complained about their drunken behavior, authorities said Thursday.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday, a husband and wife in a Duffy boat near 18th Street and West Bay Avenue got into an argument with a few other boaters, according to police.

The husband objected when members of the group allegedly urinated off a dock and threw trash over the side of their own Duffy boat.

When the husband pointed out where to find restrooms and a trash can, one of the boaters pulled out a knife with a 4-inch blade, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

The couple called police. When officers arrived, the allegedly drunken boaters had dispersed, but police tracked down three and took them into custody.

They arrested David Jonathan Rivera, 19, on suspicion of public intoxication and Kevin Ulises De La Cruz, 20, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon and public intoxication.

A 16-year-old was detained on suspicion of public intoxication.

All three are from Costa Mesa, according to police.
