Newport Beach resident Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo’s Fish Taco, and Zov Karamardian, owner of Tustin-based Zov’s Bistro, were featured Tuesday in the third of five monthly Golden Chef Series cooking demonstrations at the Sub-Zero and Wolf showroom in Costa Mesa.

Fifty area food lovers had the chance to interact with the chefs as they prepared creations from their restaurants.

Lam prepared a Hawaiian torta made with teriyaki pulled pork and citrus slaw, topped with aioli and fresh grilled jalapenos, and an Asian Cajun pan-seared fish taco topped with jack and cheddar cheeses along with drizzled roast pepper sauce and shredded cilantro, onion and cabbage.

Newport firm’s app offers financial board game for teens

A Newport Beach firm has created a free app intended to improve teenagers’ financial literacy.

CashCrunch Games’ app, “CashCrunch101,” is a board game that covers topics such as income, expenses, spending and saving, according to a news release.

“We can say with some degree of certainty that 100% of financially illiterate adults start out as financially illiterate teens, and that is something our game is designed to address,” Bill Morris, chief executive of CashCrunch Games, said in the release.

“In my experience as a teacher, I found that too many teens were put off by financial literacy because they equated it with math,” said software developer Paul Vasey, a former business school educator. “To pull teens in, it was essential that the app be relevant, challenging and, most important, fun.”

The app is available in the Apple and Android stores, as well as at https://www.cashcrunchgames.com.
