A Corona del Mar High School sophomore is representing California students at the Global Youth Summit on the future of medicine this week.

Brandeis University in Massachusetts is hosting the summit, which runs through Saturday.

Out of hundreds of applicants, Albert Szabo was one of 240 delegates invited to attend the program. Only students with exceptional academic records and test scores, as well as an interest in a health-related career, were invited to apply, according to a news release.

At the summit, Albert will gain insight into modern healthcare through experiential learning, guest lectures and networking opportunities, the release stated.

THINK Together scholarships

Two Costa Mesa teens were among four Orange County students who received scholarships during THINK Together’s annual End of Year celebration in Newport Beach this month.

Sulema Flores and Jacob Chavez from the Shalimar Teen Center in Costa Mesa took home $2,500 scholarships, according to a news release.

Luz Hernandez of Orange and Fred Villalta of Santa Ana were the other two recipients.

THINK Together’s goal is to increase academic success for children living in under-privileged communities.

The event also celebrated 20 students graduating this year from the community center.

“All 20 community center graduates are going on to higher education and are on their way to reaching their full potential,” said founder and CEO Randy Barth.
