On Tuesday morning, longtime Costa Mesa Councilman Gary Monahan put up a banner he had just bought for about $200 to celebrate his Irish-themed steakhouse and bar’s 15th anniversary. By Wednesday morning, the Skosh Monahan’s banner was missing and presumed stolen.

“I don’t know why someone would steal the banner, unless they don’t like me,” Monahan said Wednesday. He theorized that the act could have been politically motivated or the work of a disguntled former employee or a vandal.

Monahan said he plans to file a police report and work on purchasing another banner.
