Sanitary District recognized for transparency

Share

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District announced this week that it has received a special certificate for its transparency efforts.

The award came from the Special District Leadership Foundation, a Sacramento-based, independent nonprofit that was formed “to promote good governance and best practices among California’s special districts,” according to a sanitary district news release.

The local agency is the eighth special district in California, and the only in Orange County, to receive the award.

According to the release, the district had to complete various requirements to get the certificate. These included providing ethics training for its five board members, conducting open meetings, furnishing timely compensation reports and posting for the public board meeting agendas, the budget and the district’s most recent financial audit.

The district began early this year to improve its communication with the public.
