Newport woman, 75, dies in car crash

A 75-year-old Newport Beach woman died Thursday morning after her car crashed into a tree in the center divider of San Joaquin Hills Road.

Thelma Robinson was the only person in the car when the crash occurred about 10 a.m. between Spyglass Hill Road and Newport Coast Drive, police said.

She died shortly afterward at Hoag Hospital, according to the Orange County coroner’s office, which had not released a cause of death as of Thursday afternoon.

Officials are trying to determine what caused the crash.
