Collector car auction set in Newport
For the second year in Newport Beach, more than 400 cars will be rolling in for the Russo and Steele collector car auction.
The event at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort takes place Wednesday through June 21 and features European sports cars, American muscle cars, hot rods and more.
Among the vehicles sold last year were a 2008 Bugatti Veyron for $1.08 million, a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL for $341,000 and a 1968 Aston Martin DB6 for $456,500, organizers said.
“While those in the market to purchase have access to an extraordinary selection and variety of high-quality vehicles, sellers will take comfort knowing that Russo and Steele is able to get them the best price possible, thanks to our worldwide marketing efforts and highly experienced and knowledgeable sales staff,” Andrew Alcazar, co-owner of the car auction brand, said in a prepared statement.
The festivities begin Wednesday with an auction preview. Doors open at 10 a.m. Admission is $20.
The auctions are Thursday through Saturday, with the doors opening daily at 10 a.m. and auctions commencing at noon. Admission is $20.

On Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m., is a fundraising gala that benefits the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Tickets to the cocktail party, dinner and live auction are $150.
Last year, the gala raised more than $320,000, organizers said.
Two cars this year will be auctioned off to benefit two nonprofits.
A 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby, wrapped in red, white and blue vinyl, will help the Wounded Warrior Project. A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, owned by Robby Krieger of The Doors, will benefit the Orangewood Children’s Foundation.
