A man was struck and killed while jogging along East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar on Thursday night, in what police say could be a case of driving under the influence.

Edward Salkin, 81, of Corona del Mar was declared dead at the scene at 9:28 p.m. according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

Police arrested pickup driver Robert John Greaney, 23, of Costa Mesa on suspicion of hitting the man, who was running in the bike lane just west of Morning Canyon Road, authorities said Friday morning.

Jail records show that Greaney was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Police say he was booked on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter.

Newport Beach police say an investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Eric Little at (949)644-3746 or elittle@nbpd.org.

[For the record, 12:51 p.m. June 13: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday night. In fact, it was Thursday night. Also, police released the information Friday morning, not Thursday as the story said earlier.]
