Six arrested at DUI checkpoint

Costa Mesa police arrested six people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at a checkpoint this weekend, according to police.

Police screened 697 vehicles and a total of 2,072 vehicles passed through the checkpoint between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday at Newport Boulevard and 17th Street, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Police administered 20 field sobriety tests. Four people were cited or arrested for driving unlicensed while five others were cited or arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.

Police stored or impounded 12 vehicles. No one was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
