Man dies in fall from UCI bridge

A 25-year-old man died after he plunged from a bridge at UC Irvine on Tuesday afternoon.

A campus official said she did not know if the man intentionally jumped or accidentally fell. Police and fire personal responded to the scene around 4:20 p.m. and declared him dead.

“Some students saw him fall and then called,” spokeswoman Cathy Lawhon said.

Lawhon did not identify the man but said he was not a student or affiliated with UCI in any other way.

The bridge the man plunged from is in the university’s Social Science Plaza.

Lawhon said she was unsure of the bridge’s height.
