Biz News: AAA honors independent service providers

The Costa Mesa-based Automobile Club of Southern California recognized A&B Towing of Costa Mesa and Surfside Lock & Key of Irvine with the Five Diamond roadside service award during its annual awards luncheon last week.

The club honored 22 service providers for earning “excellent” ratings in driver satisfaction, response times and overall satisfaction throughout 2014. The providers constitute the top 7% of a network of more than 330 service providers in the 13 southern counties in the state, according to a news release.

MetroPro Towing of Costa Mesa was presented the Service Pro award, which went to 94 Auto Club roadside-service providers that exceeded standards in all measured areas for the entire year.

Fashion Island hosts pop-up style show

Fashion Island in Newport Beach hosted a Saturday Style event last weekend to debut the latest resort and swimwear from Rebecca Taylor, Seafolly and Trina Turk.

The event featured a roving pop-up closet with seasonal looks worn by models. The three boutiques also offered in-store promotion and discounts.

Taps Fish House opening in Irvine

Taps Fish House & Brewery is bringing its seafood, steak and craft beers to a new location in Irvine on Monday.

The restaurant will provide lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch and happy hour at 13390 Jamboree Road at The Market Place. The location has hired 125 employees.

Wellness center sets grand opening for Newport location

Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Center, which offers anti-aging and wellness treatments, will celebrate the grand opening of its Newport Beach location from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The location, at the intersection of Avocado Avenue and Coast Highway in the Coast Business Center in Corona del Mar, is the fourth for the brand.

The new 2,600-square-foot space includes six treatment rooms, ocean views and non-surgical aesthetic services such as injectables and lasers and wellness treatments such as customized hormone therapy programs.

Tamarind supports fight against AIDS

Tamarind of London has joined global culinary campaign Eat (Red) Drink (Red) Save Lives to help fight AIDS.

For a limited time, proceeds from the Newport Coast-based Indian restaurant’s Red dessert and cocktail menu items will benefit The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The month-long campaign, spearheaded by chef Mario Batali, involves restaurants, bars and food trucks worldwide.

Newport skin salon seeks $100,000 grant

Epic Skin, a skin-care salon in Newport Beach, has applied for a $100,000 grant from Chase’s Mission Main Street Grants program and needs 250 online votes from customers and others to be eligible.

The business must submit a questionnaire outlining a growth plan. Supporters can vote by June 19 at https://www.MissionMainStreetGrants.com.

The grant would help owner Delaree Bau expand the business into a specialty wellness center that would include treatments for cancer patients coming off chemotherapy.

“Receiving this grant would give us the ability to take on new employees, accomplish our goal of expanding to provide more services and specialty treatments and offer our current clients an even better experience,” Bau said in a statement.

Twenty grant recipients will be announced in September.

2 Newport agencies honored by Allstate

Allstate Insurance Co. has named two Allstate agencies in Newport Beach as among the company’s top agencies in the nation.

Agencies owned by Jorge Bendeck and Rosita Massie achieved the Honor Ring award for excellence and performance in 2014.

JenaValve names chief executive officer

JenaValve Technology Inc., a developer, manufacturer and marketer of transcatheter aortic valve repair systems with locations in Irvine and Munich, Germany, announced that longtime medical device executive Victoria Carr-Brendel has been appointed chief executive officer.

Carr-Brendel replaces Jan Keltjens, who had served as interim CEO since January. Keltjens remains chairman of the JenaValve board.
