Wilson Elementary evacuated after bomb threat

Police briefly evacuated Wilson Elementary School in Costa Mesa after someone called in a bomb threat just before noon Wednesday.

The school notified police, who worked with the Fire Department to escort students and staff off campus.

“Luckily it was late enough in the day that it was right before dismissal,” said Costa Mesa police Lt. Mark Manley.

After about an hour and a half, fire and police crews finished searching the Westside school and deemed the threat wasn’t credible.

“It was just a very generic threat,” Manley said.

Nobody was hurt during the evacuation, and most students were released to their parents as they left the campus, Manley said.
