Police asked Wednesday for help in identifying a reportedly “timid” burglar a woman found in the bathroom of her apartment near UC Irvine.

According to Irvine police, the woman arrived home at the Dartmouth Court Apartments about 9 p.m. May 27 and found the man hiding inside.

She yelled at him to leave and then left the apartment herself. She waited outside with a friend until the man exited, police said. The two then confronted him.

“The suspect emptied his pockets to show that he had not stolen any property and fled the scene,” Irvine police said in a news release. “The victim described the suspect as socially awkward and timid.”

Police described the man as 20 to 23 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, 170 to 180 pounds, clean-shaven with a round face and short, black spiked hair.

He reportedly wore Asics running shoes, jeans and a black T-shirt with “Raytheon” in red letters on the front.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case call Det. Leticia Hernandez at (949) 724-7245.
