Second public hearing for Costa Mesa’s proposed charter set for Tuesday

Share

Costa Mesa will host a second public hearing Tuesday on a city charter that could appear on the November 2014 ballot.

During the City Council meeting that starts at 7 p.m., public speakers can voice their opinions on the document that would serve essentially as a local constitution.

A 13-member charter committee drafted and approved the document over a 10-month period.

Now, City Council members can amend the charter and could decide as soon as July 1 whether to place it on the 2014 General Election ballot.

State law requires two public hearings on the charter proposal before it can be put to a vote. The first hearing was April 22.

In 2012, Costa Mesa voters rejected a proposal known as Measure V that would have instituted a charter.
