Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa) has endorsed Michelle Steel for Orange County supervisor, according to an announcement from Steel’s campaign this week.

Steel, who lives in Surfside and serves as vice chairwoman on the state Board of Equalization, is running for the District 2 seat of the five-member board. If elected in the June 2014 primary, she would replace Supervisor John Moorlach, who is prevented from running again.

“I have known Michelle all my life,” Rohrabacher, an Eastside Costa Mesa resident, said in a prepared statement. “She is honest, a hard worker and a patriot.”

Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton) has also endorsed Steel, who recently held a fundraiser hosted by Scott Baugh, chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County.

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, county Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and former Assemblyman Jim Silva (R-Huntington Beach) are serving on Steel’s campaign.

At least two others have publicly announced that they are considering running for the District 2 seat: Assemblyman Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa) and Huntington Beach City Councilman Joe Carchio.

District 2 includes Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and portions of Fountain Valley.
