Newport-Mesa has many Memorial Day options

Share

Monday is Memorial Day, and groups around the county will mark the occasion with events and remembrances. Here are some:

The names of military members killed in Afghanistan since March of last year will be read and candles lit in their memory Sunday afternoon at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial in Irvine.

The memorial at Northwood Community Park, 4531 Bryan Ave., consists of a monument sign and plaque, three stone benches and five sentinels with the names of military members who died in Iraq or Afghanistan etched in black granite panels. It was dedicated on Nov. 14, 2010.
