A public memorial service for David Stiller, a longtime Costa Mesa resident known for his community service, is scheduled for Friday.

Stiller’s family said the service will begin at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 2850 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.

Stiller, 78, had been serving on three groups at the time of his death in March: the Costa Mesa Senior Center board of directors and the city’s Finance Advisory and Fairview Park Citizens Advisory committees.

Stiller, a former U.S. Navy officer who lived in Mesa del Mar, was known for his intelligence and respectful nature even to those who disagreed with his views. He spent most of his career as a bodily injury investigator and litigation specialist for Allstate.

Stiller was also remembered for his scholarly research and encyclopedic knowledge of classical music, including being a volunteer for KUSC and having “KUSCVOL” on his license plate.

Stiller’s family said in lieu of flowers that donations be made to KUSC by visiting https://www.kusc.org or calling (213) 225-7404.
