Two late-night doughnut shoppers were injured this weekend when a pickup truck crashed into a Costa Mesa storefront.

About midnight Saturday, a Ford F150 hit the Dippity Donuts at 1854 Newport Blvd., said Costa Mesa Police Department Sgt. Zack Hoferitza.

Two women seated at a table said they were thrown to the floor when the truck crashed through the building, according to police records.

One, a 26-year-old, complained of toe pain but declined medical treatment. The other, a 45-year-old, was transported to Hoag Hospital for what she described as pain to her right side and a hand laceration.

The 34-year-old male driver said his foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the gas, according to police records. The event was deemed an accident, and no arrests were made, Hoferitza said.

The structure, located near The Triangle retail center, did not sustain structural damage, and the store did not have to shut down, according to police.
