What’s a hostage rescue like? At Newport’s Public Safety Day, residents get an up-close look

Local residents got a glimpse of what fire and police departments do every day as Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort hosted Newport Beach’s Public Safety Day on Sunday.

Lifeguards, a K-9 unit, a SWAT team and firefighters demonstrated their tactics in mock rescues and a simulated hostage situation.

Guests also toured booths showcasing first responders and participated in activities such as a bike rodeo.
