Video games stolen from libraries

Thousands of dollars worth of video games were stolen from Newport Beach libraries and probably sold for a profit during the past two months, according to police.

On Wednesday, a library official reported that 31 video games worth about $2,200 were borrowed from two library branches and never returned, Newport Beach Police Department Lt. Evan Sailor said.

The games were checked out over two days in March from the Central Library on Avocado Avenue and the Mariners Branch on Irvine Avenue.

One person is believed to be behind the thefts, Sailor said, and police are working to identify him or her.

A library official was unavailable to comment Friday afternoon.
