Around Town: Charity golf tournament Thursday in Irvine
Community Service Programs, a nonprofit organization that provides counseling and other support services for needy Orange County children and their families, will hold its 32nd annual Swing for Kids Charity Golf Tournament from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine.
The event will include a silent auction, lunch, entertainment, a $10,000 hole-in-one prize opportunity and an awards dinner. Golfing will begin at noon.

Golf benefit to aid hospice foundation
The Southern California Hospice Foundation will present its eighth annual benefit golf tournament beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast.

Event proceeds to aid homeless children
More than $52,000 was raised for Project Hope Alliance, a Costa Mesa-based homeless-aid nonprofit, at a May 1 event attended by more than 150 people at the Boathouse Collective in Costa Mesa.
The funds will be used to help secure permanent housing for 35 Orange County children, organizers said.
Angel Stadium event to benefit literacy program
The second annual Readers in the Outfield will be held Saturday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim to benefit The Literacy Project, based in Corona del Mar.
Former Angels Rod Carew, Chuck Finley, Bobby Grich and Clyde Wright will help greet 100 second-graders and their teachers of The Literacy Project’s reading program during the event, being held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the stadium’s Diamond Club. The children will show their literacy skills by playing interactive reading games.
Bar Foundation to present scholarship awards
The Orange County Bar Foundation Higher Education Mentoring Program will celebrate the graduation of 22 high school seniors from its 18-month educational and cultural mentoring program for Hispanic, low-income, first-generation college-bound students from Santa Ana schools.
A graduation event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. May 20 at the Chuck Jones Center, 3321 Hyland Ave, Costa Mesa.
The students will receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1,500, plus a “college starter kit” including dorm room supplies, bedding and a backpack, according to a news release.
The program has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships since its inception in 2002, the release said.
Newport Beach city manager to discuss budget
The monthly meeting of the Corona del Mar Residents Assn. board of directors will feature a presentation by Newport Beach City Manager Dave Kiff on highlights of the city budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

Group seeks philanthropy nominees
The Orange County chapter of the Assn. of Fundraising Professionals is accepting nominations for businesses, corporations, schools, nonprofits and individuals to receive philanthropy awards.
The awards will be presented during a luncheon at Hotel Irvine on Nov. 19.
Categories include awards for an outstanding founder, philanthropic group, philanthropist and volunteer fundraiser. There also are categories for small, midsize and large businesses.
