Share

Boy Scout Troop 90 in Newport Beach recently held an Eagle Court of Honor in recognition of Eagle Scout Brent Valentine, a Newport Beach resident who attends The Pegasus School in Huntington Beach.

Valentine is a fourth-generation Eagle Scout. His father and grandfather, both of whom are Eagles, attended the ceremony, which took place April 21 at the Pacific Club.

Troop 90 has a long history of hatching Eagle Scouts. Valentine is the 158th member to achieve Scouting’s highest rank.

Only 2% of all Boy Scouts reach the rank of Eagle, according to a news release, but Troop 90’s average is much higher at 15% to 17%.

The tradition runs deep in Valentine’s family. His great-grandfather received his Eagle badge in 1919 during a ceremony at Madison Square Garden, where Scouting’s founder, Lord Baden-Powell bestowed the honors, according to the news release.

Brent’s grandfather, Don Valentine, earned the honor in 1949 in Pasadena. Don has been active in Scouting for 76 years, serving as the longest-tenured member of the San Gabriel Valley Council of the Boy Scouts.

Bill Valentine, Brent’s dad, earned his Eagle badge in 1980.

Troop 90 meets at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Newport Beach Sea Base, 1931 West Coast Hwy.
