Ex-Costa Mesa police chief takes over L.A. port police after the agency’s chief is indicted

Former Costa Mesa Police Chief Tom Gazsi is acting as police chief at the Port of Los Angeles while its top cop faces federal corruption charges.

Gazsi assumed the duties of port Police Chief Ronald Jerome Boyd, who was put on administrative leave after he was indicted Thursday, according a statement from the port’s executive director, Gene Seroka.

Federal prosecutors allege that Boyd took kickbacks in exchange for helping a software developer win a contract with the port.
