Boy who fell into fire pit doing well

The young boy who suffered serious burns when he fell into a Newport Beach fire pit on Easter is expected to make a full recovery, according to an official at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

“He’s doing great,” said Wendi Forrest, a spokeswoman for the hospital, where the boy was taken Sunday afternoon.

The boy is 3-years-old, not 5 as originally reported to police, Forrest said.

It’s still unclear how he ended up in the beach fire pit, but police said it was probably an accident.

The hospital plans to release the boy over the weekend, and doctors expect he’ll have minimal scarring because he arrived at the burn center so quickly after the accident, Forrest said.

Most of the burns on his feet and one arm were second-degree, but some were third-degree, according to the hospital.

“He’s going to make a full and fantastic recovery,” Forrest said.
