Rally aims to touch hearts

The Newport Beach-based nonprofit Orange County Community Foundation celebrated its first IheartOC Giving Day with a rally Tuesday at the Irvine Spectrum Center.

The 30-hour Giving Day is an online fundraising marathon for local charitable causes that aims to generate $2 million in donations between 6 a.m. Tuesday and noon Wednesday.

The rally Tuesday featured performances by Anaheim Ballet ballerinas and a chamber music quartet, plus appearances by the Anaheim Ducks Power Players and team mascot Wild Wing.

It also included exhibits by Discovery Cube Orange County in Santa Ana, The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano and Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine.

Donors can contribute to any of 347 nonprofit organizations at iheartoc.org. The minimum donation is $25.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, donations totaled more than $900,000.
