Chase, standoff end with arrest of Irvine man suspected of threatening wife

A police chase and standoff over the weekend began when an Irvine man threatened his estranged wife and then fled from officers when they tried to speak with him, Tustin police officials said.

Officers drove to 46-year-old Daniel Hall Taylor’s home around 11 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities. They wanted to talk to him because his wife reported that he had called her home in Tustin and threatened her life, police said.

Taylor wouldn’t talk to police, authorities said, and threatened to shoot officers.

Soon after, Taylor left his home in a car, and police pursued him through multiple Orange County cities until he stopped in front of the Lamoureux Justice Center in Orange, Tustin police said.

After hours of negotiations, Taylor got out of the car but wouldn’t obey officers’ commands, authorities said.

After officers unleashed a police dog and shot Taylor with non-lethal projectiles, he was taken into custody, according to Tustin police officials.

Police booked Taylor on suspicion of resisting law enforcement, reckless evading, battery on a police officer and harming a law enforcement dog.

Taylor was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then to Orange County Jail, police said.

He remained in jail Thursday with bail set at $500,000, according to Sheriff’s Department records.
