Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is under contract to sell his home in Newport Coast, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

The pending sale is expected to set a price record for the Pelican Ridge community. The current high water mark for the enclave is held by an 8,000-square-foot home that sold for $4.78 million in 2013, property records show. Bryant’s house currently shows a list price of $6.45 million.

The Mediterranean-style home, built in 1997 and recently renovated and expanded, sits behind a gated drive on about half an acre with unobstructed city and ocean views. Within the 8,741 square feet of living space is a chef’s kitchen, formal living and dining areas, four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.

Among the amenities are a hair salon, an 850-square-foot gym, a movie theater and a wood-paneled office/library with a custom shark tank. Walnut hardwoods, limestone, pillars and delicate molding highlight the interior details.

Outdoors, landscaped grounds contain a pool and spa with waterfall features, a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen.

Jordan Cohen of Re/Max Olson & Associates and Jeff Ewing of Coldwell Banker Newport Beach are the co-listing agents, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Bryant, who owns other property in the area, bought the home from Dwight Manley, the sports agent who has represented such NBA players as Karl Malone and Dennis Rodman, in 2001. He had asked as much as $8.599 million for the home in 2013.
