Senior center plans wild night

Share

The entire Evelyn Hart Event Center will be taken up by casino games and prize tables Saturday in honor of the “Wild, Wild West Casino Party.”

The annual event is sponsored by Friends of OASIS, the non-profit arm of the OASIS Senior Center, and is one of the facility’s biggest fundraising event.

The group is hoping to reach its goal of selling 300 tickets to help pay for the center’s programs, van and facility improvements, according to Friends of OASIS President Kathy Stewart.

“We look forward to community support and count on high attendance and lots of donations,” she said.

The group’s fundraising committee has been working on the event since October and will depend on 60 volunteers.

“Casino night gets better every year,” said committee member Norma Wilson.

The event includes 100 silent auction items, a raffle, food, drinks, chips, entertainment and a full casino. The dining area will be spread inside and out where a “Western Chuck Wagon” dinner, underwritten by Vivante senior living, will be served.

Committee member Jennifer Kirwin said there’s even something for the early birds. Not only will the bar be open a half hour early, at 4:30 p.m., but line dancing will be underway in the dance room.

“People always get here early and this gives them something to do,” she said.

The event is open to the public 18 and older — and last year included a 45-and-younger crowd. Admission is $40 in advance; $45 at the door and includes food, one drink and $100 in gaming chips and an opportunity drawing. The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Evelyn Hart center, 801 Narcissus Ave. Corona del Mar.
