Costa Mesa woman, child hide in home during break-in attempt

A Costa Mesa woman and her child hid from a would-be burglar who tried to break into their home Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The woman called police around 1:30 p.m. when a man tried to force his way through a sliding glass door at her home in the 400 block of Victoria Street, Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said. She and her child hid inside. The man apparently did not get in, Scott said.

Officers arrested a suspect, a 31-year-old Santa Ana man, at a nearby discount store, Scott said.

Officials declined to release the man’s name because police are investigating whether he’s tied to other burglaries, Scott said.
