New firefighters put through paces in training

Two new Costa Mesa firefighters are working through a two-week training academy at the Placentia Avenue fire station.

Drills include fire exercises, extricating victims from vehicles and ventilating buildings.

The Costa Mesa Fire Department is in the process of hiring and training six firefighters, Fire Chief Dan Stefano said.
