Lido Isle house fire kills cat, sets off ammunition

Share

A house fire Saturday in Newport Beach killed a pet cat and set off ammunition stored in the home, authorities said.

Firefighters responded around 3 p.m. to the 100 block of Via Koron, on Lido Isle, and rescued the resident’s dog, but a cat died in the blaze, Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

A resident who was inside when the flames started escaped without injury, Manzella said.

The heat set off ammunition inside the home, but the bullets didn’t cause significant damage, she said.

The flames caused at least $500,000 in damage, according to an estimate from fire officials.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, Manzella said.
