IVC debate team captain gets university scholarship
The captain of the debate team at Irvine Valley College has been accepted to Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a full scholarship.
Aditya Sharma of Irvine has been a standout on the debate team for the past two years, said IVC debate coach Gary Rybold.
“We are expecting big things again from him this year, and SIU is one of the nation’s premier universities for debate,” he said.
Sharma won four awards at last year’s state championships and a gold medal in debate.
SIU teams were ranked No. 1 or 2 in the country for the past four seasons.
Aditya, who graduated from Northwood High School in 2011, plans to major in economics or political science.
