Costa Mesa seeks members for city committees

The Costa Mesa City Council is accepting applications from residents to fill seats on seven committees and the newly established Senior Commission.

The deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. March 20.

The Senior Commission, which advises on senior center matters, has two vacancies — for a four-year term and a two-year term.

The Access, Building, Fire and Housing Board of Appeal has vacancies for five four-year terms and two alternate spots, also for four years. The advisory panel assists with building construction appeals as needed.

Fifteen spots are open on the Bikeway and Walkability Committee, which is updating the city’s master plan of bikeways. The terms are for two years.

The Cultural Arts Committee, which helps promote the city slogan City of the Arts, has vacancies for seven regular seats and two alternate spots, all for two-year terms.

The Historical Preservation Committee has vacancies for four regular seats and one alternate. The terms are for two years.

The Housing and Public Service Grant Committee has six vacancies for two-year terms. The group works on an as-needed basis.

The Pension Oversight Committee studies the city’s unfunded pension obligations and unfunded medical liabilities. It has openings for nine two-year terms.

The Traffic Impact Fee Ad-Hoc Committee meets as needed. It has four vacancies: two for at-large positions representing city residents, a third for major developers and a fourth for small developers.

Applications are available at the city clerk’s office or online at https://www.costamesaca.gov/apply. They can be submitted online, hand-delivered to City Hall or mailed to the city clerk at P.O. Box 1200, Costa Mesa, CA 92628-1200.

The council is tentatively scheduled to make appointments during its April 7 meeting.
