A 74-year-old Irvine woman accidentally crashed her car into a Costa Mesa business over the weekend, authorities said.

Police responded to Liberty Tax, 2200 Harbor Blvd., at 2:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports that a car had been driven into the building, according to a news release.

The woman drove her black, BMW 535i station wagon over a curb and through the glass storefront, narrowly missing a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy seated on the couch in the store.

The girl was treated at Hoag Hospital for lacerations to her left leg. The boy was also treated at the hospital for lacerations to his abdomen from flying debris.

A 22-year-old man, who was also inside the building, was treated at Hoag for minor pain in his right eye.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said. The driver was released, and her car was towed.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact traffic investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
