Public meeting to focus on East 19th Street

Costa Mesa city officials are hosting a public meeting Wednesday evening about the future of East 19th Street.

The session begins at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Kaiser Elementary School, 2130 Santa Ana Ave.

Officials are expected to gather input and discuss the future of the Eastside Costa Mesa thoroughfare, a roughly 1-mile stretch between Newport Boulevard and Irvine Avenue. The street is predominantly residential.

Last summer, the City Council approved an engineering design contract for East 19th that could lead to the addition of traffic-calming “chokers” — build-outs added to a road to make it narrower — similar to ones built along Broadway.

In November, officials discussed potential landscaping and conceptual plans for West 19th Street, a 1.5-mile stretch that contains businesses, strip malls and single-family homes.
