Six people were taken to local hospitals after a two-vehicle crash in Costa Mesa early Sunday involving a driver for the Uber ride service.

The crash occurred about 1 a.m. when a Mercury Mariner driven west on Wilson Street by a 19-year-old man from Deer Park, Wash., ran a red light and struck a Scion used as an Uber car, according to police Lt. Greg Scott. The Scion, driven by a 36-year-old Irvine man, was northbound on Harbor Boulevard.

The Scion driver and three passengers were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, authorities said.

The driver of the Mercury and his passenger also suffered minor injuries.

Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Scott said.

“Neither driver showed signs of impairment,” he said.
